Milk Glass

Lately I've fallen in love with milk glass. In case you're not familiar with it, milk glass was first made in Venice in the 16th century. It's an opaque or translucent milky white or colored glass. It's available in several colors including blue, pink, yellow, green and of course the white that led to the name "milk glass".

Supply Shopping - I Love It!

Today I went supply shopping for the first time in a while. I just love it. It's a natural high. My problem is that I would like one of everything but obviously have to restrict myself to items I will actually end up using.

I bought some lovely beads and can't wait to make up some fresh new designs I have in mind.

You should see some new items in the shop in the next few weeks.

Welcome to the First Day of Summer

It's hard to believe that it's the first day of summer. We've been experiencing a heat wave here and lovely warm temperatures for a couple of months now.

All the same, HAPPY SUMMER.

Do you have any day trips or longer vacations planned?

Don't you love this print from UrbanDreamPhotos! It really shouts out "summer fun" to me.

A Homemade Ribbon Dispenser

Yesterday I was cleaning out my office and trying to make some order of the chaos. I emptied my bin of ribbons and happened to mention to my 15 year old son that I really need to make a container to hold my reels of ribbons - something that I could put on my desk.

Being a budding engineer, he asked if he could try making something with some wood in the garage. I said "sure" as I was really interested to see what type of design he would come up with. I was also thrilled that he was willing to give it a shot and tear himself away from gaming for a while.

Here's a few photos of process as well as the finished product.

And, while he was making my ribbon dispenser, my younger son got inspired and started working on making some large trays for his lego.

Look at the finished product! I love it!

The Mystic Peacock

I've always been fascinated by peacocks.

When I was a young girl, my sister and I used to go to visit my grandmother in York, England for a couple of weeks each summer. One of the highlights of visiting, would be the day trip to the York Museum Gardens. Back then, there were peacocks walking free all around the gardens and my sister and I used to hunt for stray peacock feathers that were lying around.

In retrospect, it probably wasn't very higienic but we used to ride home on the train with "Granny" with several peacock feathers that we would put in a vase in her living room.

My love of peacocks has never faded and so I found myself looking for unique peacock themed items on Etsy.

Look at the marvelous treasures I found!

School's Out!

One son finished school yesterday and the youngest one finishes in about an hour! Major excitement in the house, that's for sure.

I'm picking up five boys from school, taking them out to lunch to South Street Burger and then they're going paint balling for the afternoon.

Something tells me I'm going to have a tired little munchkin by tonight :o)

Here's to a summer of sunshine, ice cream and just plain old fun!

Dandelion Beauty

1. SweetHarvey  2. Talktothesun  3. MyBelleBoutique09   4. Papermoth  5. Karmabeads

A few years ago our community decided, for health reasons, to ban pesticide. As relieved as I am to have less pesticides in our soil, the dandelion has become a bit of an eyesore.

Well, today I'm embracing the dandelion! After seeing these gorgeous pieces of work, how could one not love the dandelion.

Take some time to browse through these talented artists shops. You'll be delighted at what you find.

The Comings and Goings in the Service Berry Tree

Right outside our kitchen we have a service berry tree. I usually have a bird feeder filled and love to watch the cardinals and blue jays coming to feed. The tree reaches the second floor of the house and is right outside our bathroom window.

At this time of year the service berry is bearing it's fruit and it's a hive of activity.

There's "Rocky the chipmunk" and "Son of Rocky" and dozens of birds that wake me up at 4am.

This morning though, we had some new visitors. At 1am I awoke to a noise right outside the bathroom window. It almost sounded like someone trying to get it. I quietly tiptoed into the bathroom and looked out and found myself looking right into the eyes of a raccoon. She must have been about 2 feet from me. Of course, being quite brazen animals she just continued on and I closed the window.

The rest of the night, I was tossing and turning and finally stumbled out of bed at 5am to make myself a cup of tea. As I walked into the darkened kitchen I looked outside to see a possum leaving the tree and sneaking under the hedge. Just as I was about to turn around I noticed a slight movement and saw a mother raccoon with her tiny baby waddling onto the patio. They climbed right up the service berry tree and straight to the branches with the ripening berries (right near the bathroom window).

With tea in hand I snuck upstairs to the bathroom and watched the mother and baby devour berries while I drank my tea. I don't think I've ever been so close to a raccoon - they were just a couple of feet away.

As  the sun rose, they hurried down the tree and I went back to bed to finish my tea.

It was a lovely way to start the day.
