Jacaranda Designs Jewelry Included In Hollywood Snob Photography Fashion Shoot

I was super excited today to receive a sneak peek of a series of photos taken Sunday as part of a photo shoot by Hollywood Snob Photography. Amazing photographer, Ally, requested a loan of a number of pieces of Jacaranda Designs jewelry to use in this photo shoot.

I've only seen the one photo so far but I can see why she requested my jewelry...it's perfect for the whimsical, afternoon tea theme Ally created.

Head on over to Hollywood Snob Photography to see more of Ally's work. I'll also be sharing more of here photos from Sunday once they are available.

Thanks Ally!

Wednesday Featured Artist - TheEclectricElement

My featured artist of the day is Kayla from TheElectricElement. Kayla makes stunning pieces of jewelry, each very different. You can spend quite some time browsing her shop as there is so much to see. Take a look for yourself and read on to learn about this budding young artist!

Give us a little background about yourself

Well my name is Kayla and I am 19 years young. I have lived in Illinois for most of my life so needless to say I can't wait to get out of it. Lol. Unfortunatly I have been sick with Lyme Disease for the last 5 1/2 years so I have missed out on pretty much everything a normal teenage life consists of, but everything I have gained from the experience makes up for the 'normal teenage' part. Like the fact that being sick brought me to my love of jewelry making!

What do you create?
I love to create anything and everything that I get my hands on. But what takes up most of my time is my jewelry.

What type of materials do you like working with?
I will work with anything that you give me, but my favorite is upcycled materials that I stumble upon. When I see a certain piece of something or other, I can envision what it's going to look like in jewelry form.

Is this a full time or part time venture?
This is a full time venture at the moment because I'm too sick to go to work or hold any sort of job.

How to you manage your time?
Honestly I don't have to manage my time because 24 hours out of 24 hours are free.

What is your favorite item in your shop right now and why?
I think my favorite thing would be the Au Natural necklace because it is one of my earlier pieces and is directly tied to the Earth. Also, it was my first wire wrapped pieces.

What are your goals for 2009?
My number one goal for 2009 is to be able to live my life. I don't have to be 100% better, but I would love to be able to go out on a walk by myself without having to lug out the wheelchair and have someone drop everything to go push me around.

And just for fun...

Favorite color
Purple.

Favorite food
That's a hard one! I would have to go with a cheeseburger =]

Favorite music
I'm now into the alternative music like Iron & Wine and Joshua Radin.

Favorite movie
It depends on my mood and the genre.
I guess today it would be Love Me If You Dare.

A Couple of New Pieces

It's going to be a busy week. I have my jewelry open house on Thursday and Saturday. I have no idea how many people to expect. So far this year, I've had more sales than this time last year so I'm crossing my fingers. In times of recession, people tend to spend on smaller items (not diamonds though) when they need some retail therapy. Apparently, cosmetic companies make more lipstick sales than during the boom times because women tend to spend on smaller items to give themselves a lift....so we shall see.

Just finished reading "The Book of Negroes" which was fascinating. A really good read but difficult at times to get through. It's all about the slave trade from Western Africa to the States. When my husband was in the Ivory Coast he went to one of the harbours that they used to ship the slaves out of. There was a photo of these huge wooden gates. They were the gates of no return because once you went through them you were loaded onto a ship, never to return to Africa. Well I can say that after reading this book, those photos have even more impact!

I managed to photograph some of my recent creations and posted a couple yesterday on Etsy. Very colorful pieces.

The first is made from all vintage glass beads and I love the mixture of colors. I actually made two but kept one for myself!

The second is a glass pendant wrapped with antique brass finished wire. It's very whimsical.

Finally, some new designs!

Well I'm back on my feet again after herniating a disk in my lower back - now I'm just dealing with achy back but I CAN CREATE AGAIN. Last week, I was lying in bed trying to make jewelry and it didn't work so I'm pleased to be able to get back to work!

I posted a few new items yesterday. I love the combination of brass and ivory pearl so I created the Together Forever Cream Pearl and Brass Leaf Necklace.

I also had some lovely vintage German green glass beads that I ordered a couple of months ago. They are very slightly facetted and are this lovely soft honeydew or jade green. One item is a necklace that is a very minimalist design but I think effective. And of course, I had to make a pair of earrings. Well, I made two actually, one for me and one for my Etsy shop.

Colorful Vintage German Glass Beads

Lately, I've been buying quite a few vintage german glass beads to incorporate into my jewelry.  I love the range of colors them come in and the richness of those colors.  They pair so well with the antique brass chains.

Experimenting With Copper - Part 2

The other day I posted a copper bracelet that I was working on.  Well I finished it and here's a pic to prove as much.  I attached a small copper charm and a couple of vintage German glass beads that have a hint of copper in them.
